Add a blurb about licensing (CC? gnu?)

I'm wondering if we should add something about Creative Commons license to cover our asses for now. Can we simply add the following text without having to 'register' with CC?:
"Except where otherwise noted, this work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 License."
