Map: Default local zoom option?

Reported by Jason Steeghs | October 20th, 2009 @ 05:54 PM

When you go to the map section of the brain, you're shown an entire world map. If i want to access a specific building but only know it's location (as opposed to address) or some other scenario, I have to click through multiple "zoom in" layers to get into Vancouver. It would be great if you could either set a default location view or have it ask you if it can base your location on your ip address and zoom you in part way from there. Or at the very least, when I click on a building from the map and then click "back", it would take me back to that zoom in level where I was when I clicked it initially, rather than back to the world map.

Does this make sense? Just finding it tricky to navigate around Vancouver and look at multiple buildings in sequence...don't like having to zoom in each time.

A related suggestion: when you go to google maps, the navigator has an long vertical bar of zoom levels, whereas we have the scaled down version with just the plus and minus...It seems like there's enough room to go with the larger nav controls on our map. This could be in addition to or instead of the above suggestion...
